Q: Can you make a birdhouse with a porch?

Written by Jannypie on Jan 30th, 2008 | Filed under: craft

A: Yes, please!!

I was contacted last week by an internet friend sugardumpling (who, coincidently also bought my first ever birdhouse on Etsy!) asking if I could make a birdhouse with a porch, like her house. I can’t tell you how excited this made me. I have LONG had the idea of making cute birdhouses to reflect people homes. Not in the cheesy exact-replica-mailbox sort of way, but just a house that is obviously inspired by YOUR house. I was DELIGHTED to finally have the chance to do something like this, and for such a sweet woman!

Here is a picture of sugardumpling’s home (love that screenname, btw). She also emailed to say that her house currently has a red front door:

And here is the matching birdhouse!

It actually began its life as a log cabin, so my husband and I sawed off the ends of the logs to make it look more like a house with wooden siding. I paired papery green flowers under white daisies with red rhinestone centers to adorn the house. And since her home looks to be surrounded by greenery, I added touches of moss around the edges, to really give it a natural feel. Sugardumpling and I are both very very happy with the result! Thank you SO much sd for giving me the opportunity to work with you!
